This town with 8300 inhabitants is one of the biggest towns on the north-eastern part of the lake. We can reach it from direction of the capital on highway M7, we have to slip off to road 71; on main road 8 we have to slip off at Veszprém, and 10 km long road leads to the town. It has a railway station and a port also.
Balatonalmádi came to existence by fuse of 3 towns: Balatonalmádi, Vörösberény and Káptalanfüred. The oldest and bigges of the others was Vörösberény, it was supposedly named after the "red" ground, which can be seen everywhere all aroud this area. Vörösberény was mentioned in the Memorandum of Association of the Nun Cloister of Veszprém as Szárberény. The villge was donated to cloister with "48 furnaces and 6 fishermen" by St. István.
