Martonvasar lies close to the M7 motorway 30 km from Budapest. This tiny settlement became famed throughout Europe thanks to the hospitality and love of music of the resident Brunswick family.

Indeed, Ludwig van Beethoven was a regular guest and music teacher at the attractive Brunswick mansion built originally in Baroque and later rebuilt in neo-Gothic style. Today Martonvasar remains a centre for the Beethoven cult: a museum set up in the mansionpreserves items related to the great composer, while each summer outdoor concerts are staged in the delightful grounds.

From the webpage of Martonvasar:

Martonvasar is a large village with 4500 inhabitants sirtuated along the Highways M7 and 70. It is 30 km away from Budapest and 15 km from the Velence Lake. It lies on the Northest part of the Mezofold. Due to its rich soil a high level agricultural production has existed here for a long time.

The peaceful, unpolluted countryside attracts many people who yeam to escape from dirty, noisy big cities. Around 1260 the village was already a 'market place'. A document originating from 1268 mentions it first by the name of `VILLA FORUM MARTINI'. The most beautiful parts of its more than 700 hundred year old history had been connected with the Brunszvik Family.
